Item Description

First Time on CD for this Skyy album, Expanded with the addition of 5 Bonus Tracks, will also have in depth liner notes and an interview with Mr Randy Muller.

This is one of the most desired, yet to be released CD Re-Issues. Re-Mastered from the Original Studio Master Tapes by Evren Goknar at Capitol Mastering.

FROM THE LEFT SIDE was the first & only Capitol album by the Brooklyn NY-based funk/dance outfit SKYY. Released in 1986 two years after the band left Salsoul Records, “From The Left Side” found Skyy & their longtime producer Randy Muller forging their trademark dance funk sound with 80s techno-pop/soul (drum machines & synthesizers). The result was an album that pleased Skyy’s longtime fans as well as young listeners whose musical palate craved a more modern flavor.

To recap the group’s history, Randy Muller met the Dunning Sisters (Denise, Delores & Bonne) in 1973 at the Miss Black America Pageant where Muller was performing with his band, Brass Construction. “I was so impressed with their vocals that I had the Dunning girls sing with B.C.,” said Muller. “However, as time went on it was hard to pay a ten-piece band & three singers a salary of $200.00 a night per gig. So, I approached Solomon Roberts, Jr. – an old friend from the Brooklyn area (the East New York section, to be exact) – about forming a group with the Dunnings. Solomon was the guitarist for a rock band called Fuel, which also included Anibal Anthony Sierra (guitar/keyboards), Larry Greenberg (keyboards), Gerald Lebon (bass) and Tommy McConnell (drums). So, the two forces came together & formed Skyy.”

With Randy as producer and keyboardist on their sessions (“I didn’t tour with Skyy because of my commitments with Brass Construction”), Skyy signed with Salsoul Records in 1979. Four albums later, the group hit pay dirt with 1981’s “Skyy Line” album and their first #1 R&B hit, “Call Me”. The single also peaked at #18 on the pop charts and the long-player earned the group a gold album award.
